Do you have sensitive teeth? When you drink or eat something hot or cold, do your teeth hurt? If your teeth are sensitive, you may be worried that you have gum disease.
It's understandable, because many people worry about their teeth, and when they feel pain, they wonder if it is gum disease. However, there are people who have sensitive teeth who don't have gum disease. Here is some additional information about ways to tell if you merely have sensitive teeth or if you have gum disease.
Sensitive Teeth or Gum Disease?
Many of the symptoms of sensitive teeth are different from people who have gum disease. People with sensitive teeth often have trouble if they need to drink very hot or very cold foods and beverages.
Also, if you have sensitive teeth, you may also experience pain if you eat or drink hot or cold foods. The pain could range from a twinge of pain to a dull ache.
Some people with sensitive teeth report their teeth feel sunburned or overexposed when they brush, eat or drink hot or cold foods. If you have sensitive teeth, you may feel that you need to avoid excessively hot or cold foods. However, gum disease has different symptoms. If you are worried that you have gum disease, the first sign you might notice is that your gums are puffy, and red instead of pink.
You may also notice that your gums bleed when you brush or floss. If you see that your gums are bleeding whenever you brush or floss, this is a signal you may have gum disease.
