For one reason or another, people seem to ignore the issues they have with their oral health. They may say they do not have the time to follow good oral hygiene habits every day. They may forget to make appointments with our offices or they may fear going to our offices for a checkup and cleaning. The result when a person does this is they lose teeth, have cavities and can develop gum disease. Gingivitis is a form of gum disease that is treatable, but people don't always take care of it. It is time to understand why this is the wrong idea. What is Gingivitis?Gingivitis is a form of gum disease. It refers to the early stages of gum disease. It is a mild form of gum disease that is very common. Gingivitis is the result of a buildup of bacteria on the teeth and gums. The bacteria form plaque and tartar. This can lead to a variety of issues that include swelling of the gums, bleeding of the gums and pain in both the teeth and gums. The treatment for gingivitis is usually fairly simple. Some people can treat gingivitis by simply improving their dental hygiene habits. They can turn to a stronger toothpaste or they can include some type of anti-bacterial mouthwash in their oral hygiene routine. A trip to our offices for a professional cleaning is another way to treat gingivitis. Treating gingivitis is relatively painless and easy to do. It is possible to heal the damage from gingivitis and restore the health of the teeth and gums. Why Treat It If it is only a mild form of gum disease and the treatment for it is relatively easy to do, why even bother to do anything different. The answer is that the gingivitis is a result of something going wrong. It means that your gums and teeth are not as healthy as they should and there is a need to do something different. Gingivitis will not go away on its own. The bacteria, plaque and tartar will continue to grow, and the number of problems will increase. The mild case of gingivitis can turn into something much more serious. It can lead to gum disease that is not as easy to treat. It can lead to the loss of teeth and abscesses. All these things can have a negative impact on the body. Contact our office today to schedule an appointment to help you maintain the best oral health you can. |
