Do You Need to Clean a Dental Bridge Differently Than Your Teeth?

Posted on 7/23/2020 by Hilton Israelson, DDS
Do You Need to Clean a Dental Bridge Differently Than Your Teeth?Smiling with missing teeth is not an ideal situation. Fortunately, with the emergence of dental bridges, you can replace your lost teeth and restore your beautiful smile. Nevertheless, there is a catch. You have to clean your dental bridge daily for optimal oral hygiene. Interestingly, cleaning your dental bridge is not any different from brushing your teeth. Here are a few points you need to know to keep your dental bridges clean.

Brushing Your Dental Bridge

You should brush your dental bridges twice a day, as you would with your natural teeth. However, you need to use a soft-bristled toothbrush to brush your dental bridge. This should be along the gumline where the bridge meets your natural tooth. Nevertheless, do not exert too much pressure when brushing your bridge to avoid discoloring or chipping the appliance.

Flossing Your Dental Bridge

Flossing your bridge is just as essential as any other oral care routine. However, instead of using a regular flossing string for your bridge, you are advised to buy a floss threader or oral irrigators (water flosser). These devices release a stream of pressurized water that efficiently removes food particles and debris trapped underneath your dental bridge.

Professional Cleaning

Interdental toothbrushes, water flossers and other dental tools can only do so much to clean your dental bridges. These tools are not capable of removing tartar and plaque buildup efficiently. This could cause potential harm to your dental health as the buildup of bacteria may lead to various diseases. With this in mind, you are advised to seek professional cleaning services offered at our dental offices.
