This means the tissue that once surrounded and supported your teeth has pulled away from the teeth. Some patients may describe this as thinking their teeth have grown but the reality is that more of the tooth is uncovered as the tissue is pulled away. A surgical treatment known as the Chao Pinhole Gum Surgery, allows us to rebuild tissue using a process that is both scalpel free and suture free. Sometimes referred to as a no cut, no sew option, this is different from traditional tissue grafting.

What is the Chao Pinhole Gum Surgery?

Traditional methods for restoration included the cut, grafting and sewing of healthy tissue from other areas of the mouth or donated tissue. This technique is uncomfortable with long periods of healing. Today, we can promote healthy growth of your gum tissue through the Chao Pinhole Gum Surgery technique.

The Chao Pinhole Gum Surgery begins with ensuring the comfort of our patient. This surgical treatment is minimally invasive, but a local anesthetic can remove any discomfort you may feel. Once comfortable, we begin by making a tiny pinhole entrance into the gum tissue. We then gently loosen the tissue around the pinhole area and insert strips of collagen fibers into the pinhole and surrounding area. The collagen will protect the roots and promote the healthy growth of new tissue. All surgical treatment is performed in just the tiny hole, no cutting or sutures needed. Because treatment is so easy, we can treat several areas during the same visit. Once completed, there is no downtime because there are no cuts or sutures. Patients experience considerably less discomfort and faster recovery.
