Single Tooth Replacement With an Implant
Richardson, TX

Diagram of dental implant with postTooth loss is more than just an embarrassing thing to live with. When you lose a tooth, you will also start to lose bone. Another thing that can happen when you lose a tooth is that the other teeth in your jaw can shift, and that will throw off the alignment. The good news is that you do not have to live without that tooth.

Here at Dr. Xixi Wu, we have helped others to have a new prosthetic tooth with a single tooth implant. We would like to see if you are a good candidate for a dental implant as well.

The Basics of a Single Tooth Implant

If you are missing a tooth, there could be a way that we can replace it. Here is what you need to know about a single tooth implant.

Sometimes we will need to replace a tooth because it was knocked out. Other times, the tooth might be gone because of decay. We could decide to remove the tooth ourselves; it does not need to be already missing.

For a single tooth implant to take, it is important that you have enough bone, membrane, or bone and membrane in your jaw. If you do not have enough bone, we might decide to start with a bone graft. With this, we will take a small amount of bone, grind it, and then add it to your jaw. A bone graft could take several weeks, but it would be necessary to have enough bone for the implant.

If you have enough bone, or once the bone from the bone graft has fused with your jaw, we will start to move ahead with the implant. We will implant a screw in your jaw where the implant will go. The screw is like the new "root" for your tooth.

It will take a few weeks until the screw has bonded with your jaw. Depending on the location of the missing tooth, a temporary crown in some form will be provided for both aesthetics and function.

Once the screw and your jaw are ready, we will refer you to your general dentist for the restorative crown placement. The crown will be your new tooth.

Once you have the implant, you will treat it just like the rest of your teeth. It is important to brush and to floss. We will also tell you the correct way to care for your gums. It is important to take good care of your implant. If you have any pain after the process is finished, let us know immediately.

A single tooth implant will give you back a missing tooth. It will also help to put an end to bone loss. Here at Dr. Xixi Wu, we have given others back confidence with a single dental implant. Call us at (972) 669-9444 and make an appointment so that we can do the same thing for you.
